THE IDEAL TERROIR FOR SPARKLING WINE<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pietro Riccadonna and Domenico Mazza were the fathers of the modern sparkling wine making process in Italy. Both of them conducted their experiments right here in Oltrep\u00f2 (the great Pinot Noir Riserva), the ideal terroir for sparkling wine because of the unique soil features and the microclimate in the hills.\u00a0In 1870 Domenico Mazza started producing the \u201cChampagne of Oltrep\u00f2\u201d in Codevilla. At the beginning of the 20th century, Oltrep\u00f2 sparkling wine was also well known in the US, and, near the Statue of Liberty in New York City, there was a billboard advertising \u201cGran Spumante Svic\u201d, by the Casteggio wine company.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
